Knox County GLEANERS
Member of Maine Gleaning Network
Knox County Gleaners started in January of 2019 with the support of the Harvard Pilgrim Healthy Food Fund. In our first year we worked with 5 Knox County farms and gleaned 6,961 pounds. In 2022 we gleaned and distributed 23,155 pounds at 22 share tables. We share vegetables at food pantries, soup kitchens, senior housing, Head Start, medical facilities, the Homeless Coalition and local libraries. We installed 2 “root cellars”; climate-controlled storage areas at AIO Food Pantry in Rockland and a walk-in cooler at Come Spring Food Pantry in Union for emergency food and distributions Knox County. We have added farms bringing us up to 18 and work very closely with Erickson Fields in Rockport, our Mainers Feeding Mainers farm. We are a founding member of the Knox County Food Council. We thank United MidCoast Charities and The Onion Foundation for their support.
