Androscoggin Gleaners is hiring a coordinator!

Member of Maine Gleaning Network

The Androscoggin Gleaners were founded in 2017, a collaborative network made possible by the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center of Lewiston, the University of Maine Cooperative Extension for Sagadahoc and Androscoggin Counties, Bates College, Healthy Androscoggin and many individual volunteers.

Our work is made possible entirely through volunteer efforts to harvest surplus fresh produce from local farms. This produce is distributed to various food pantries, soup kitchens, low-income housing communities, and other food access sites in Androscoggin County.

In the 2018 season, the Androscoggin Gleaners harvested and delivered 14,042 pounds of fresh produce from 8 partnering farms through the work of close to 70 volunteers. This produce was distributed throughout the season to numerous food access sites across Androscoggin County, providing 90,000 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables to communities with typically limited access.
